Fayetteville attorney John Everett entered a plea of no contest on a charge of third-degree battery for punching Little Rock lawyer Jim Penick earlier this summer.

Everett received a suspended sentence and a fine in Fayetteville District Court at his Aug. 20 court appearance, we're told.

We called the court clerk to find out the amount of the fine but were told we needed to provide Everett's date of birth before the office could look up case information.

You might recall the altercation was associated with a deposition donnybrook in Everett's office in connection with a long-running lawsuit.

The case revolves around the April 2009 opening of Physicians' Specialty Hospital at 3873 Parkview Drive in Fayetteville, its effect on Physician's Surgery Center and conflicting ownership interests.

The case is scheduled for trial in Pulaski County Circuit Court Feb. 4-15.
