Arkansas wanted to make history this year.
Just probably not like this.
Thanks to ULM 34, Arkansas 31 (OT) on Saturday, the 2012 Razorbacks have left their mark on Arkansas football and the college game.
•Arkansas’ fall from No. 8 to out of the AP Top 25 was the second-furthest fall in college football history.
•No opponent has ever tallied more total offense on the Razorbacks (481 yards) than ULM quarterback Kolton Browning.
•A Top 10 Arkansas team lost to a team outside the BCS conferences for just third the time (h/t @Hogdatabase).
•Plus, this loss has folks wondering if this is the “worst” loss in school history.
All depends on how you define “worst,” of course.
Is it the biggest upset of the Razorbacks?
I’d argue so, since the 1992 team that lost to the Citadel wasn’t ranked in the Top 10 or coming off consecutive Top 10 finishes or poised to have ESPN’s GameDay on campus the next week.
Is it the most gut-wrenching?
Likely the 1969 Shootout probably gets that nod from a lot of folks. There's an argument to be made for this loss, however.
Is it the most embarrassing?
There have been bigger margins of defeat. Heck, the program even lost to a Kansas high school team in 1898.
But ULM as a 30-point underdog? At home? With a Top 10 ranking?
