A surprise party of sorts was thrown four blocks west of the Country Club of Little Rock last week.

Uncle Sam staffed the soirée with members of the IRS along with some law enforcement folks.

They brought the party to the home of Steve Parks and Anna Harper. The gathering lasted more than six hours.

We're not sure what the special occasion was. We understand that instead of bringing gifts the IRS carted stuff away.

We won't be surprised if the event is linked in some way with a $109,342 state tax lien filed against the couple's home earlier this year.

That claim by the Department of Finance & Administration is for individual taxes for 2006.

Harper, of Anna's Estate Sales fame, couldn't be reached for comment. Nor could Parks, CEO of King Coal LLC.

He formed the Little Rock enterprise in 2007 to mine and produce refined coal from the surface and deep mines located in Arkansas, as well as pursue other coal-related ventures.

Parks is remembered for his involvement with tax credits issued by Arkansas Valley Regional Industrial Development Co. and for his treasure hunting concern, Sea Heritage Investments, formed to fund the recovery of a sunken fortune of Spanish booty off the coast of Panama.
