Water Park to Be Built at Convention Center

Ground was recently broken for a $25 million water park in Texarkana.

The Holiday Springs Fun Park is the latest in a series of developments around the Texarkana Convention Center Arkansas. The park is funded mainly by Hiren Patel, a local doctor, and will be in the vicinity of the $35 million, 28,000-SF convention center and attached Holiday Inn.

"We always felt that in order to be competitive in this market and region, we had to add something else, a different flavor, if you will, something that put us above the rest," said Kenny Haskin, the city's director of economic development. "We felt bringing in the water park would be that linchpin and make it a little bit easier for us to market."

Haskin said the area around the center had already started attracting local businesses. He noted that the convention center was also recently selected as the venue for the 2015 Governor's Conference on Tourism.

The center broke ground in July and is estimated to be completed by March 2013. Haskin said the water park should be done by Memorial Day weekend.

Texarkana, Texas, is also constructing a 25,000-SF convention center and attached Hilton Garden Inn, which Haskin said has "absolutely no relation" to the Arkansas project.
