Dunkin’ Donuts is spreading in Arkansas, as promised.

The Canton, Mass., company announced in July 2011 that it planned to open about 11 new restaurants in Arkansas.

So far, two Dunkin’ Donuts stores have opened and another two are slated to launch around November.

The first Dunkin’ Donuts in the state in years opened May 1 at 7401 Phoenix Ave. in Fort Smith.

The Fort Smith owners, who are members of the family that founded Littlefield Oil Co., are currently looking at sites in northwest Arkansas for another store, according to Jim Geels, a representative of the family’s companies. The family plans to open seven of the doughnut shops.

Arkansas’ second Dunkin’ Donuts opened July 10 at 6805 Cantrell Road in Little Rock. And the Dunkin’ Donuts at 2234 N. Reynolds Road in Bryant is scheduled to open Nov. 1.

Trey McIntosh, an owner and general manager of the Bryant franchise, said he and majority owner Eric McDuffie are also hunting for a site in Hot Springs suitable for another Dunkin’ Donuts to open sometime in 2013. The pair hopes to operate five of the doughnut shops eventually, McIntosh said.

Little Rock’s second Dunkin’ Donuts is under construction at 10721 Kanis Road. Franchisee Conan Watters, who also owns the franchise on Cantrell Road, plans to open on Kanis at the end of November or early December. Long term, he wants to own at least five Dunkin’ Donuts shops in Little Rock.

A North Little Rock branch of the doughnut chain is also under way, McIntosh said, but he didn’t know when it would open.

Dunkin’ Donuts spokeswoman Jenna Kantrowitz said in an email that a Conway location was also under contract. She would not confirm addresses or opening dates for any of the coming locations.
