It may be an off week for the Arkansas Razorbacks, but not for the Pressbox Roundtable crew. This week we welcome as our national guest the famed Birmingham-based columnist and radio host Paul Finebaum, whose syndicated radio show is heard on Sirius/XM satellite radio weekdays from 2-6 p.m. The show is also available via the Internet.
Finebaum joins our panel of usual suspects: KTHV, Channel 11, sports anchor Mark Edwards (Twitter: @markedwards1906), ArkansasExpats.com editor and regular ArkansasSports360.com contributor Doc Harper, the KABZ-FM 103.7 The Buzz's Justin Acri and Jessica Duff (@jduff84) to the table. ArkansasSports360.com editor Chris Bahn (@cbahn) is on board again, and columnist Jim Harris (@jimharris360) moderates.
Finebaum is renowned for his takes on the SEC and national sports scene. Follow him on Twitter @finebaum. Also you can catch Edwards, Duff and Acri interviewing the ArkansasSports360.com team of Bahn and Harris throughout the week.
Readers, join with the panel. Let us know what you think in the comments section at the bottom of the feature. As usual, we've got lots to touch on, and for our Arkansas State fans we made sure to include a question on Gus Malzahn and the Red Wolves for Paul and the gang. Let's go:
Jim Harris: Do we give Arkansas credit for regaining its pre-ULM footing in these past two wins, or do we chalk the victories over Auburn and Kentucky to those teams being the worst in the SEC?
Paul Finebaum: I think it’s a little early to declare John L. a success after beating two of the worst teams in the history of SEC football. Still, anything would be an upgrade after A&M, though, and I credit Smith and the staff for getting the team better prepared.
Doc Harper: As bad as Auburn and Kentucky are, they're not worse than Jacksonville State, and Arkansas has played better the past two weeks than they did in that opener. Give the Hogs some credit. If they just scraped by against Auburn and Kentucky, I'd think differently, but they won both games convincingly.
Jessica Duff: I think you have chalk these victories up to being the two worst in the SEC. BUT, it definitely helps build confidence for a team that desperately needed something to get them back on track. It could be just the midseason turning point they needed.
Mark Edwards: No credit for the wins against sub-par teams. I will credit them for their much-improved play, though.
Justin Acri: I will do the easy thing and say it’s a combination. If Arkansas beats an improving Ole Miss team in two weeks, I will be willing to say they have turned the corner.
Bahn: This team struggled with Jacksonville State and couldn't beat a Sun Belt team. As bad as Auburn and Kentucky are, I think you have to credit the Razorbacks for not only winning, but winning big. Let's see what happens against Ole Miss, though before we declare them "back."
Harris: What grade would you give Arkansas at the “fall break” and feel free to elaborate on these specific areas: offense, defense, special teams, coaching?
