FAYETTEVILLE — A new hearing has been set for next month in Arkansas football coach John L. Smith's $40.7 million bankruptcy filing.

The Nov. 14 hearing is to discuss a request by bankruptcy trustee John Lee to add special legal counsel.

Smith filed for Chapter 7 liquidation of his debts on Sept. 6. At a hearing last week, Smith's attorney said the process could take just a few months or up to two years.

Smith said he invested in developments in Kentucky that went belly up when the real estate market tumbled.

Arkansas (3-4) hired Smith, a former Louisville coach, away from Weber State for 10 months for $850,000 after Bobby Petrino was fired in the spring. Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long says he hopes to make a permanent hire shortly after the regular season ends.
