We welcome back a familiar face for a one-time guest appearance with the Pressbox Roundtable crew: former Arkansas Razorback All-American and local radio personality Bruce James. Since James is a native of Mississippi and has been back to the state regularly, we thought he'd be perfect to join in the week the Razorabcks meet the Rebels in Little Rock.
Also joining us for the first time is former Razorback running back Michael Smith, who played for both Houston Nutt and Bobby Petrino.
Also back is our usual lineup of suspects: KTHV, Channel 11, sports anchor Mark Edwards (Twitter: @markedwards1906) and KTHV sports producer-reporter Jessica Duff (@jduff84), ArkansasExpats.com editor and regular ArkansasSports360.com contributor Doc Harper, and KABZ-FM 103.7 The Buzz's Justin Acri. ArkansasSports360.com editor Chris Bahn (@cbahn) is on board again, and columnist Jim Harris (@jimharris360) moderates.
James offers his no-holds-barred opinions on the Razorbacks on Tuesdays on KABZ-FM's "The Show With No Name," alongside Tommy Smith and David Bazzel. James and Bazzel provide their Hog picks every Wednesday on KATV, Channel 7 with Steve Sullivan. We're still trying to get Bruce to delve into Twitter.
Also you can catch Edwards, Duff and Acri interviewing the ArkansasSports360.com team of Bahn and Harris throughout the week.
Readers, join with the panel. Let us know what you think in the comments section at the bottom of the feature.
Jim Harris: What’s been a bigger surprise? Arkansas’ 3-4 start or Ole Miss’ 4-3 start?
Bruce James: Probably a dead heat, because we were supposedly a Top 10 football team that collapsed. But I took a look this past spring at what Ole Miss was having to do and them having to rebuild and I didn’t think they’d win but two ball games, UCA and Tulane. I thought just to be competitive would be good year.
Michael Smith: Arkansas without a doubt. Even with injuries this team has had to endure, many felt they had primary and secondary talent mostly across the board (tier one programs do). Personally, I thought when Highsmith, Wright, Bennett and Tevin Mitchell went down during camp it would be more beneficial for the defense because coaches were then allowed the time to develop a young two-deep. Injuries had this team in a stranglehold on both sides of the ball all year long.
Doc Harper: Arkansas. Easily. Ole Miss is better than expected but not by a whole lot. They've still only won one conference game. It's not shocking. Even the biggest Arkansas skeptics didn't expect September to play out like it did. That was a shock.
Mark Edwards: It has to be the Hogs because of the talent left during the Bobby Petrino era. Offensively, the Hogs have struggled and it has something to do with the players and the offensive coordinator. Obviously Paul [Petrino] is nowhere close to the mastermind his brother is when it comes to play calling. Defensively, it’s been a struggle as well. More importantly, when the tough times hit, no one had a clue where to go to find the answers. I never have expectations for Ole Miss and nothing surprises me about that program.
Jessica Duff: Definitely Arkansas’ 3-4 start. Before the season began, many people (not just fans living in Arkansas) believed the Hogs would only lose two or three games max. That’s even after the Petrino fiasco. The fact that they’ve only won three games at this point in the season is mind-boggling.
