Did you hear that Little Rock's Whole Hog Cafe franchise is headed north?

The new location in Cherry Hill, N.J., a suburb of Philadelphia, has been in the planning phase for at least a year. CEO and CFO Chris Maynes said he wanted to bring Whole Hog up north "where we could sorely use good barbecue."

Maynes is himself a resident of New Jersey. He said Whole Hog will own the standalone building, unlike the rented strip mall spaces used for most of its Arkansas spots.

"Other than that, we want to duplicate the menu, decor and overall experience of our Arkansas locations as closely as possible," Maynes told us.

The location is slated to open in February.

Maynes also tells us that plans to extend the Whole Hog franchise to Dallas have fallen through.

"We had preliminary discussions with two potential franchisees from the Dallas area who had approached us, but it turned out the timing was not right for either one to make the transition from their current career from becoming a Whole Hog Cafe franchisee," he said. "So we agreed to revisit the possibility at some point in the future, and so, for now, we're not actively working on the Dallas area."

Currently, Whole Hog has 12 locations across Arkansas, Missouri, Louisiana and New Mexico.
