Texas Tech Coach Tommy Tuberville was mentioned as a candidate at Arkansas in 1998. His name came up against in 2007.

So it’s no surprise that Tuberville, a Camden native, is getting attention as a potential candidate with this Razorback vacancy.

Turberville, who is off to a 6-2 start with Texas Tech this season, recently visited with Bo Mattingly, host of Sports Talk. They discussed a number of topics, including the importance of recruiting and developing players at a school like Texas Tech (or Arkansas).

There were a number of notable moments, but this exchange was interesting.

What kind of coach does it take to win at a place like Arkansas?

“Well, no matter what you do, whether it’s Arkansas, Auburn, The University of Miami, every place is different. Every situation is different. No. 1 you’ve got to look at your location. As we talked earlier, it’s about recruiting. The No. 1 thing about any football program starts with the staff. ...

“You’ve got to believe in it together. That’s the way we did it at Auburn. People said you can’t win at Auburn. I said, ‘Yeah. You can.’ You don’t have to go out and get the great players. We took the three stars, some four stars, molded them together and we won a lot of football games.

“You can do that at any program.”

Could Tuberville, who is 129-74 in stops at Ole Miss, Auburn and Texas Tech, do it here? Would you want him to?
