The City Wire, the online-only news source based in Fort Smith, recently added staff to expand its coverage of northwest Arkansas.

The City Wire hired Julie Bagley, who has worked in advertising, marketing and TV news, to coordinate coverage of events and the arts in northwest Arkansas. Jamie Smith was also hired to report on breaking news and arts and entertainment in northwest Arkansas.

The media company also hired Peggy Knight to work in marketing and sales. Much of Knight’s past experience came from working for Sam’s Club, a division of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. of Bentonville.

Michael Tilley, editor and president of City Wire owner TCW Media, declined to discuss his plans for growing the media company or how many employees he has hired this year.

However, the recent hires are in line with comments about his plans that he made to Arkansas Business in December. At the time, Tilley said he wanted to expand The City Wire’s northwest Arkansas coverage and hire up to three full-time writers and about 10 freelancers.

According to TheCityWire.com, The City Wire has a staff of nearly 20 people, including at least five freelance and part-time employees.
