The recently emptied job of Bill Simmons, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette political editor of 16 years who died Oct. 29, has been filled by Frank Lockwood.

Lockwood previously served as religion editor while also overseeing the Dem-Gaz’s Washington, D.C., bureau. He will continue to serve as editor for the Washington bureau.

Religion reporter Christie Storm replaced Lockwood as religion editor.

Simmons, 71, was still working three days before he died.

The Dem-Gaz is also searching for a replacement for Rachel Chaney, who leaves her position as High Profile editor to become communications director of the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Foundation in December.
