Developer Steve Clary Sees Trial Postponed Again

1 min read

Steve Clary, Little Rock real estate developer and dabbler in various other industries, will not go on trial Monday after all.

Karen Whatley’s recent departure from the U.S. Attorney’s Office (for private law practice at Mitchell Williams Selig Gates & Woodyard) means a different federal prosecutor, Angela Jegley, has been assigned to the case.

So the government and Clary’s federal public defender, Lisa G. Peters, jointly petitioned U.S. District Judge Leon Holmes for a delay in Clary’s trial on four counts of wire fraud and one count of mail fraud. Last week Holmes set a new trial date of June 17.

He is accused of misappropriating $1.6 million in loan proceeds from Banc of America Leasing Corp. back in 2008.

By our count, this is the fourth trial date for Clary.

And almost three years will have passed between his July 2010 indictment and his June 2013 date with a jury.
