The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences announced Monday that Leslie Taylor will be promoted to vice chancellor for its Office of Communications & Marketing.

Taylor is scheduled to replace Pat Torvestad in the position Jan. 1 at the academic health center in Little Rock. Torvestad plans to retire Dec. 31, after working for more than 20 years for the University of Arkansas System.

Taylor has served as UAMS associate vice chancellor of communications and marketing since 2002. As vice chancellor, she will lead the UAMS office responsible for external and internal communications and marketing.

Taylor also is a past vice president for communications and marketing for the Central Arkansas Radiation Therapy Institute and a former journalist with the Arkansas Gazette and Arkansas Times.
