Jason Burt of Little Rock was awarded Best Portrait of a Man and first place in the commercial photography division at the 2012 Professional Photographers of the Ozarks print competition for his photograph “Avionics Tech.”

Construction

Rick Brown has been promoted from general superintendent to vice president of construction operations at James Cone Construction in Little Rock. He has been with the company for 19 years.

Robert Adams has joined East-Harding Inc. as a commercial construction estimator and project manager.

Richard Hedgecock has been named executive vice president of the Arkansas chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America. He previously served as chief of staff for U.S. Rep. John Sullivan of Oklahoma.

Education

Vincent Harding and W. Stephen Smith have received honorary degrees from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Harding, who worked alongside Martin Luther King Jr. to advance civil rights and remains an advocate for nonviolent social change, received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters. Smith, a UA alumnus and professor of voice at Northwestern University who developed a new approach to teaching the art of signing that promotes self-expression, received a Doctor of Arts & Humane Letters.

Gisela Erf, Christa Hestekin, Hoyt Purvis and Javier Reyes have received Honors College Distinguished Faculty Awards at the University of Arkansas for their role in supporting the university’s honors students.

Stephanie Vander-slice of the University of Central Arkansas in Conway has been named the 2012 Arkansas Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for Advancement & Support of Education.

Dr. Linda Worley, a professor of psychiatry at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, has received the 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association for Academic Psychiatry. Worley is a past president of the association and is vice president of the Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine. She also serves as a staff psychiatrist at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System Women’s Primary Care Clinic and as an educational consultant in the UAMS College of Medicine’s Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology.
