Dixie Montgomery Joins Arkansas Hospice (Movers & Shakers)

Agriculture

Warren Carter has been promoted to vice president of public policy at the Arkansas Farm Bureau. Carter previously served as the organization’s director of commodity and regulatory affairs, a post he held for 10 years.

LaVona Traywick, Donna Rinke, Wilma Lewis and Mary Hightower have won the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service’s annual Extension Excellence Diversity Award for their participation in the Walk Across Arkansas program. The Issue Team Award went to Mike Andrews, Randolph County staff chair, and Herb Ginn, Lawrence County staff chair, for their efforts to increase Arkansas’ peanut production. The Unit Team Award was given to the extension’s Arkansas Row Crop blog team, whose members include Tom Barber, Jeremy Ross, Jason Kelley, Leo Espinoza, Bob Scott, Nathan Slaton, Kevin Lawson, Chris Grimes, Steve Kelley, Blake McClelland, Ralph Mazzanti, Gus Lorenz, Glenn Studebaker, Terry Kirkpatrick, Kim Rowe, Scott Stiles, Bob Stark and Mary Hightower. Samy Sadaka was given the Innovation Award for the development of a new system to convert bio-renewable resources into bio-oil. Cally Shore won the Early Career Classified award; Jessica Vincent, the Early Career Non-Classified award; and Trish Ouei, the Early Career County Agent award.

Education

Ben Bruner and Ron Smith have been selected to chair departments in the College of Sciences at Harding University in Searcy. Bruner will replace Mike Plummer as chair of the biology department, and Smith will replace Steve Smith as chair of the mathematics department, beginning June 1.

Financial Services

Tracy Duke and Rodney Abston have been promoted to senior vice presidents at Regions Bank in Little Rock. Both men have been with the bank for six years.

Health Care

Drs. Peter Goulden and Abby Nolder have joined the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. Goulden was named director of the diabetes program and assistant professor in the Department of Internal Medicine’s Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism and will practice at the UAMS Outpatient Endocrinology Clinic. Nolder was hired as an assistant professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery in the College of Medicine and will treat patients at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

Jarrod Yates, former chief of staff for U.S. Rep. Mike Ross, has joined Blue Cross Blue Shield as a lobbyist. He will primarily work in Arkansas during the General Assembly, focusing on health care issues.

Nonprofits

Dixie Montgomery of Bryant has been named finance director at Arkansas Hospice. Montgomery, a certified public accountant, previously worked at Arvest Bank.
