David Garner Keeps Simmons First On the Move (Super Mover)

David Garner’s duties will expand with Simmons First National Corp.’s growth, primarily in the areas of regulatory reporting, strategic planning and investor relations. 

Background: Garner earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and received the designation of Certified Public Accountant in 1996. He also attended the University of Virginia’s American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ National Banking School and is a member of the Arkansas Society of Public Accountants and the National Investor Relations Institute.

Experience: Garner worked as a staff accountant for Priddy & Holifield PA and served as a regulatory accountant for Stephens Inc. He joined Simmons in 1997 as an auditor and later filled the positions of accountant, management accounting officer, assistant manager of corporate planning and assistant vice president of corporate planning. After serving as vice president of the Finance Group in 2004, he was elected senior vice president and controller in 2006. Garner also serves on the board of directors for the Southeast Arkansas Arts & Science Center and is a member of the Pine Bluff Downtown Rotary Club.

Position: In addition to serving as vice president, Garner has taken on the role of controller and chief accounting officer. His duties will expand with the company’s growth, primarily in the areas of regulatory reporting, strategic planning and investor relations. He will report to Senior Executive Vice President and CFO Bob Fehlman as well as Simmons Chairman and CEO J. Thomas May. “It is [David’s] ‘can-do’ attitude and willingness to take on any assignment that make me and our CFO look better than we deserve,” May said in a news release. “I am very proud of David and look forward to his continued growth within the Simmons First family.”
