Of course you remember the disgraced lawyer Kevin Harold Lewis, who invented a fake special improvement district bonds scheme that cost Arkansas banks some $50 million and ruined First Southern Bank of Batesville.
Well, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Little Rock last month closed a case involving the seizure of a nearly $53,000 arctic white Mercedes-Benz that Lewis gave his father, Harold Lewis, in April 2010.
“The vehicle was a custom order with European delivery, meaning that the purchaser traveled to Europe, drove the car for several days to ensure that the vehicle met his satisfaction and then had the vehicle shipped to the United States,” according to court filings in the case.
When it was discovered that Kevin used the money from his fraud scheme to buy the car, FBI agents took it. The U.S. Attorney’s Office then filed a lawsuit in 2011 to keep the luxury vehicle.
At first, Harold Lewis fought the seizure and said in his court filings that he was the innocent owner of the car. He argued the car was given to him as a repayment of a loan.
By November, though, Harold Lewis had a change of heart. He agreed that the car was purchased with “proceeds of bank fraud committed by Kevin Lewis,” he said in his court filing.
And with that, the U.S. Attorney’s Office filed some more paperwork and received the judgment that it could have the vehicle.
Kevin Lewis, 44, is serving his 10-year federal prison sentence in the Federal Correctional Institution in Memphis, a medium-security facility for men.
He is scheduled to be released in January 2021.
