Former Arkansas Travelers General Manager Pete Laven is back in baseball.

Laven will be the president of Salvi Sports Enterprises LLC in Chicago, which owns two independent minor league teams in the Chicago area. Salvi also owns two teams in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League; one of those teams is near Boston and the other is in Martha’s Vineyard.

The independent league has play that’s similar to that of Class AA, which is the level of the Travelers.

Laven said he learned about the Salvi teams through his friends in Chicago.

Laven said he talked to Chicago trial attorney Patrick Salvi, who owns the teams, in December and kept in contact with him.

“It happened pretty quickly from there,” Laven said.

Laven, 43, spent 15 seasons with the Travelers, which is a member of the Class AA Texas League. He was released from the Travelers in November.

Laven will live in Chicago.
