Kudos: Fulbright College Gets $500K Donation

  • The J. William Fulbright College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Arkansas received a donation of $500,000 from the family of Raymond Hughes, a professor who taught at the university from 1954 to 1990. The endowment will be used in the newly created Raymond H. Hughes Graduate Program for professional development of faculty, college promotions and visiting lecturers.
  • J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. has been recognized by Wal-Mart for Innovative Excellence in Transportation in 2012. The company uses an integrated, multi-model approach, focusing on providing reliable transportation services throughout the continental United States.
  • Windstream Communications’ IP Simple solution has been named the 2012 Internet Telephony Product of the Year by integrated media company TMC. The product is a communications bundle aimed at small to medium-sized businesses.
  • ABF Freight System Inc. has been listed as one of Training magazine’s Training Top 125, which ranks company excellence in employer-sponsored training and development programs. The company bases its ranking system on several qualities, including training budget, hours, goals and workplace surveys.
  • Saint-Gobain has been awarded the Energy Star Sustained Excellence Award by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The company, which employs 365 Arkansans, was recognized for its leadership in energy management and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
  • USA Truck has been named Tier 1 2012 Carrier of the Year by Alcoa. Based in Van Buren, the dry van truckload company transports general commodities across North America and provides customized transportation. It is the first time USA Truck has received the award. n
  • The Blackwood Team of Little Rock has become officially certified as a Women Owned Business Enterprise after completing a certification process administered by the National Association of Women REO Brokerages. The real estate company, owned and managed by Cindi Blackwood, was also No. 1 on the Arkansas Business Team Sales list for the last two years.
