1 min read

Phoenix Metals Co. of Atlanta announced Thursday it would build a $4 million metal processing center and warehouse across 11 acres at Chaffee Crossing in Fort Smith.

According to a news release, the company is also investing $8 million in new equipment for the facilities. Up to 40 new jobs are slated to be added during the next three years with average wages of $15 per hour.

“Phoenix Metals has been looking to add a service center somewhere along the I-40 corridor from Russellville to Tulsa to take care of our customers in that region,” Don Gray, Phoenix’s branch manager for this area, said in the release. “The Chaffee Crossing development and the Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce sold us on the Fort Smith area.”

“Phoenix Metals’ decision to locate its processing center and warehouse operation in Fort Smith is a testament of our commitment to recruit high-tech businesses to this region,” said Tim Allen, president of the Fort Smith Chamber, in the release. “A Fortune 500 company of this quality locating its operation in Fort Smith is a win for both company and community.”

Phoenix is a subsidiary of Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co. of Los Angeles and has operations in 12 states distributing aluminum, stainless steel, copper and carbon steel products.
