Conway Also Sees Big Business from Small Tech Companies

2 min read

The flourishing of tech companies in Conway isn’t restricted to big names.

Rock Pond Solutions, for example, has 12 employees and has moved into data analytics and business intelligence software since it started as a consulting company in 2000.

Founder Pete Tanguay said Arkansas’ central location has been highly convenient in catering to his nationwide clients. He also cited better labor costs.

“The appeal [of] Conway is there are three colleges, and we have been able to find good employees right out of school and have worked with Hendrix to get some interns as well,” Tanguay said in an email. “Another benefit to having a technology company in Conway … is there are a lot of people who have decided to move here because of the quality of life (lots of trails, smaller town, etc.) [who currently] are driving to Little Rock for work. Finding a job in Conway and eliminating the commute and all of the negatives that go along with it is very attractive.”

Tanguay said Conway’s tech base has always been healthy, but the town’s recent growth has added value to his company.

“I do see a lot more technology-based companies and therefore more activity,” he said, “so I guess in that sense it has gotten better. There is a monthly tech business happy hour at a local establishment that is a great place for networking.”

Another smaller tech firm, ABC Financial Services, writes software for managing health clubs. The company recently expanded to Conway from Sherwood.

“Quite a few of our software development team members, including myself, live in Conway and expressed how they would love a local office,” said Luke Coleman, a developer at ABC. “It allows our Conway guys to spend less time commuting and more time doing what they love, develop.”

He said ABC has seen a “huge focus” in Conway on the tech scene.

“ABC believes Conway has a wider talent pool of developers and hopes to tap into those resources,” he said. “Conway is a vibrant city with a great downtown that gives us a nice recruitment tool for developers that want to live in the Valley or Austin-type environments.”
