University of Arkansas Athletic Department Projects $80.6M Budget

1 min read

The University of Arkansas athletic department is projecting $80.6 million in revenue for the 2013-14 fiscal year.

It’s a 6.3 percent increase from the $75.6 million projected for the 2012-13 budget. Arkansas made the budget available after a Freedom of Information Act request.

Included in the revenue projects are $26.5 million from football ticket sales and $20.5 million in SEC/NCAA distribution. Arkansas expects nearly $13 million in donations, $6.4 million in basketball ticket sales, $5.8 million from multimedia rights/sponsorships, $3.5 million in trademark licensing and $1.85 million from baseball ticket sales.

Among the top expenditures for UA athletics: $20 million for football, $10 million for debt service, $6.3 million for basketball, $3.6 million for facilities costs, $3.2 million for utilities, $3 million for women’s basketball and $2.2 million for baseball. Arkansas will again transfer $1 million from athletics into the general university budget.

Football will generate a nearly $6.5 million profit in 2013-14. Men’s basketball is the only other sport projected to earn money for the department with profits of $1144,031. Most sports do not typically generate a profit, and money from football and other revenue streams help pay for sports like women’s basketball, which is expected to lose $2.9 million in 2013-14.

Arkansas has seen its budget grow 58 percent percent since Athletic Director Jeff Long took over a $51 million operation in 2008-09. In 2009-10 the budget was at $58 million, then $63.3 million in 2010-11 and $68.9 million in 2011-12.
