Rock City Running recently celebrated its grand opening at 10300 N. Rodney Parham in Little Rock.

Owner and avid runner Bill Torrey said that opening a store catering to runners was something he had “wanted to do for a long time.”

Rock City offers a wide variety of shoes and apparel from brands like Brooks, Asics, Mizuno, Newton, Salomon and Moving Comfort.

Torrey said the 1,000-SF storefront formerly served as a storage facility for the Chainwheel Bicycle Shop, which is three doors down from Torrey’s store.

He said Rock City’s location had no electricity, heating or air prior to his store moving in and that the renovation process took about two months.

The store employs 10 people, including four who have prior footwear sales experience. Torrey described the staff as “very active,” with a combined list of hobbies that includes competing in triathlons, cross-country running, biking, swimming and playing tennis.

Torrey, who has been running for 34 years and directing races for 25 years, said the store will host running events in the future. Rock City has already sponsored the Power Over Pain of Arkansas 5K.

A store website is currently in the works. For more information, call (501) 313-4689 or visit Rock City’s Facebook page at Facebook.com/RockCityRunning.
