Top of the List

As usual, the Center for Toxicology & Environmental Health LLC tops the list with 117 employees, a boost of 28 employees over 2012. The company also gained 78 workers overall since last year.

CTEH was founded in 1997 and handles disasters like chemical and oil spills. The company was one of the groups involved during the cleanup of BP’s Deepwater Horizon disaster in 2010, for example.

The company increases its number of contractors during particularly large jobs — the Deepwater Horizon incident raised CTEH’s employment to about 900 during that cleanup.

CTEH has its own aircraft and regularly sends its employees from its base in North Little Rock to hazard sites all over the country. It employs professionals ranging from environmental scientists to nurses to chemical engineers.

Other companies experienced slight employment shifts.

FTN Associates Ltd. of Little Rock fell from 74 to 67 employees, but stayed at second place, Terracon of Bryant dropped from 39 to 33, and SET Environmental Inc.-Safety Management Systems of Little Rock went from 22 to 20.
