Arkansas Children's Hospital on Monday held a welcome ceremony for its new president and chief executive officer.

The event marks the first day on the job by Marcy Doderer.

During the event, Doderer received the "keys" to ACH -- a giant ring of brightly colored children's toy keys -- from Tom Baxter, chairman of the ACH Board of Directors.

Doderer was announced in May to replace longtime CEO Dr. Jon Bates, who retired June 30. Doderer has 20 years of health care management experience, most recently working as vice president and administrator of the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio, part of the Christus Santa Rosa Health System.

An Arkansas native, Doderer explained to Arkansas Business in May how 1987 -- the year she had an internship at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, working with then-CEO Randall O’Donnell -- had been a crucial year for her.

"I found that running a hospital had to be the most exciting thing in the world," Doderer said. "And I thought, I’m going to run a children’s hospital someday."

Doderer has said her first 100 days at Children's will be spent learning about the daily operation of the hospital and listening to the key employees and leaders. Then she’ll develop a plan to “help shape the future” for the hospital, she said.

Arkansas Children's Hospital is the only pediatric facility in the state and also has the state's only burn unit.
