Former Lawmaker Steve Jones to Join Southern Bancorp Nonprofit as Senior VP

2 min read

Steve Jones, a former state legislator and currently a deputy director at the Arkansas Department of Human Services, will join Southern Bancorp Community Partners as senior vice president of programs.

In this post, Jones, who served three terms in the Arkansas House of Representatives, will focus on SBCP’s community development programs in Arkansas and Mississippi, Tanya Wright, CEO of SBCP, said Monday. SBCP, based in Helena, is a nonprofit that works to help develop rural communities in the South. Jones will oversee SBCP’s work in a four-county area.

Jones, who graduated from Arkansas State University, is a former member of the Earle (Crittenden County) City Council. He also serves with the Delta Regional Authority and previously served as chairman of the Delta Service Board and president of the Good Neighbor Center, a nonprofit agency in Crittenden County.

“Steve’s commitment to helping improve the lives of those in need, coupled with his many years of responsible and executive level leadership, make him the right choice to lead SBCP’s community-based initiatives,” Wright said in a press release. “‘I’m confident that his addition will be a significant and effective contribution to our ongoing work in the region.”

“As a son of the Delta, I’m thrilled to join the team at Southern Bancorp Community Partners in their mission to strategically work with communities on their educational attainment, unemployment reduction and poverty reduction goals,” Jones said in the press release. “There is nothing that’s wrong in our region that people working together can’t make right.”
