First Community Bank of Batesville said Wednesday that it will apply with the Arkansas State Bank Department to open a full-service branch at 1617 S. Caraway Road in Jonesboro.

"Not only do we anticipate offering the people of Jonesboro a unique community banking option, we foresee this full-service facility in Jonesboro as a way to better serve our existing customers who are students and visitors to the area," Boris Dover, First Community's president and COO, said in a news release.

"We are excited to branch into the growing northeast Arkansas market and look forward to a welcome partnership between First Community Bank and the people of Jonesboro."

First Community Bank, which has 15 branches in northern Arkansas and southwest Missouri, has operated a mortgage origination office in Jonesboro since 2008.

The bank said that if it gets approval for the Jonesboro branch, the branch could open by the end of the year or in "early 2014." First Community will also need approval for the branch from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.

First Community Bank is currently building a fifth White County banking center in Searcy.

First Community Bank employs more than 240 people and reports assets of $812 million.
