The Green Corner Store, at 1423 S. Main St., offers items like coffee from Onyx Coffee Lab of Fayetteville and honey from local producers.

The Green Corner Store at 1423 S. Main St. is building an e-commerce section for its website to sell goods online. When complete, the website will increase the visibility of the store as well as enhance its mission of selling environmentally friendly goods.

“It makes sense to have an e-commerce site to expand our sales and our reach,” said Shelley Green, the store’s owner.

The store made the investment with the help of Kiva, a nonprofit organization that arranges small loans with Internet crowd funding.

Kiva enabled individual donors, from local supporters of the Green Corner Store to foreign contributors, to make loans as small as $25 to help the store reach its fundraising goal of $8,000. Green decided to work with Kiva after the organization announced the launch of Kiva City Little Rock. The announcement at the Clinton Presidential Library in March marked the beginning of an initiative to expand the availability of microloans in the city.

Green foresees a number of ways the store, as well as the community, will benefit from the e-commerce functionality. From the store’s website at, it will be able to sell products to customers outside of Little Rock, especially, Green hopes, in rural areas. The Green Corner Store will also expand its inventory because it can show products online without needing to find space for them on the shelves. Green noted that displaying goods on its website would also give its suppliers, many of which are small Arkansas companies, greater visibility.

Green expects the e-commerce portion of the site to be available in early 2014.
