J.B. Hunt 4Q Profit Up 9 Percent to $92M

J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. of Lowell on Thursday reported record fourth-quarter net earnings of $92 million up 9.5 percent from net earnings of $84 million during the same quarter last year.

The publicly traded logistics firm (Nasdaq: JBHTreported diluted earnings per share of 77 cents, up from 70 cents during the same quarter last year. Earnings per share fell short of analysts' expectations of 79 cents.

Total operating revenue reached $1.47 billion, up nearly 10 percent from $1.34 billion in the same quarter last year.

Load growth and new customer accounts drove revenue increases in J.H. Hunt's operating segments. The company said its Intermodal division saw a 13 percent increase in load growth resulting in an 11 percent increase in segment revenue. Revenue in Dedicated Contract Services increased by 17 percent as the division added new customers. Integrated Capacity Solutions rose 13 percent. The Truck segment reported a 9 percent revenue decline as the company reduced its fleet size.
