Workshops devoted to commercializing and marketing technology produced from university research will be held in February at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.

The sessions, presented by the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center, are intended for researchers, innovators, entrepreneurs and students involved in developing products with high commercial potential.

The first workshop, "Commercializing Your Technology: Moving From Idea to Market," will be held Thursday, Feb. 13, from 8 a.m. to noon at ASU's Delta Center for Economic Development.

Brian Rogers, director of the ASU Catalyst Innovation Accelerator, will lead the training which will focus on basic processes related to entrepreneurship, technology transfer and commercialization. Training topics will address trademarks, copyrights, patents, trade secrets, confidentiality, strategic collaborations, funding, transfers of rights, licensing, entity formation, marketing summaries, proof of concept, lean start-up principles and presenting to investors.

Deadline to register is Monday, Feb. 10. The cost is $50, but students may attend for $25 and ASU faculty and staff for free. Register here.

The Delta Center will be the venue as well for the "Marketing New Technology" workshop from ASBTDC on Friday, Feb. 28, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Led by John Riggins, founder of The Riggins Group in Little Rock and an instructor in the College of Business at Arkansas Tech University, training will focus on helping entrepreneurs and university-based researchers gather market and competitive information to prepare them to bring their ideas to fruition.

Topics will include identification of problems and solutions, using qualitative primary data collection, how to gain information from potential customers, quantitative research to identify key competitors, points of differentiation and determining size of market.

Registration costs for the marketing workshop are the same and the deadline to register is Feb. 24. Register here.
