1 min read

Windstream Holdings Inc. of Little Rock said Friday that it has secured a five-year, $1.6 million contract with the U.S. Department of Defense.

According to a news release, the contract involves installing fiber-optic cable at three military bases: Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla., Tinker Air Force Base near Oklahoma City and Kelly Field Annex in San Antonio.

“We are thrilled to have been selected to design and deliver these fiber-optic networks to the heroes at Fort Sill, Tinker Air Force Base and Kelly Field Annex,” said Mike Magliato, Windstream’s vice president of government solutions in the release. “Not only are we excited to be the fiber provider of choice for these important military establishments, we are proud to continue providing voice and data services to the United States government.”

The announcement is the latest in a series of government contracts that Windstream has been awarded. Most recently, it received a $12 million federal contract to supply data, voice and Internet services to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

In May 2013, the company was awarded a 10-year, $38 million contract to provide similar services to agencies throughout the General Services Administration’s Region 4, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
