J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. of Lowell on Wednesday announced a regular quarterly dividend of 20 cents per share, up 33 percent from its previous quarterly dividend of 15 per share.

In a news release, the trucking and logistics firm said its board of directors concluded "the consistent earnings and cash flow growth generated in recent years warranted a higher dividend."

"This larger than historical increase represents a commitment to returning capital to shareholders on a consistent basis at a more reasonable yield relative to JBHT’s share price," the company said.

The dividend is payable Feb. 27 to stockholders of record on Feb. 13.

On Jan. 23, the company reported fourth-quarter profit up 9 percent from the same quarter last year.
