Andrea Davis' Law License Suspended

The Hot Springs attorney who was involved in an "inappropriate" relationship with Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel in 2012 has had her law license suspended.

Andrea "Andi" Davis "presently poses a substantial threat of serious harm to the public and to her clients if she continues to practice law," according to the order of interim suspension filed by the Arkansas Supreme Court Committee on Professional Conduct Panel A on Feb. 5.

The suspension could last anywhere from 90 days to indefinitely, according to the Arkansas Supreme Court Committee on Professional Conduct rules. Davis would have to file a motion to be reinstated to begin the process of having her suspension lifted.

"We're not challenging it at this time," said attorney Jeff Rosenzweig of Little Rock, who represents Davis. "She wants to get her life in order."

He said she hopes to return to the practice of law after she gets "some issues resolved."

Rosenzweig said Davis has had a number of stresses in her life, but he declined to go into further detail.

The order of interim suspension didn't say what the allegations were that led to the suspension of Davis' license, which she received in 2008. Stark Ligon, executive director of the Supreme Court Office of Professional Conduct, said he couldn't comment on the details of the case.

But in Garland County District Court, Davis is facing two felony counts of theft by receiving and five counts of contempt of court, which are misdemeanors, according to court records.

Davis became well known in December 2012, when McDaniel, who was starting his campaign for Arkansas governor, said he had had an "inappropriate" relationship with Davis.

At the time the Democratic candidate was — and still is — married.

In January 2013, McDaniel withdrew his name from the governor's race.
