The Judd Hill Foundation announced Tuesday a $1 million donation to Arkansas Children's Hospital's Centers for Children facility in Jonesboro.

The center is a collaboration between ACH and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Department of Pediatrics. It provides specialty health care for families in northeast Arkansas.

The center will use to money to provide more more diagnostic services and specialty clinics. Currently, the Centers for Children offers specialty clinics in neurology, cardiology, developmental rehab, neurosurgery, surgery and urology.

"We believe that creating easy access to subspecialty care closer to home will result in quicker assessment of children with health problems and a faster time to healing," ACH President and CEO Marcy Doderer said. "We are very grateful to Mike Gibson and to the Judd Hill Foundation for helping create the possibility of a healthier future for children in northeast Arkansas."

Gibson is the trustee for the foundation, started by Esther Chapin in 1985. Chapin owned the Judd Hill Plantation in Poinsett County until her death in 1991.

"Through the expertise of the doctors and staff at the Centers for Children, cutting-edge medical care is now accessible to children in our corner of the state," Gibson said. "Some of these children don't have access to preventative care, while some just aren’t able to drive to Little Rock for a follow-up visit.

"The very best in pediatric health care should be available here in northeast Arkansas, and we are delighted to support it."

This donation is part of the ACH's Century of Possibility Centennial Campaign, which aims to raise $160 million in support of pediatric care, research, education and prevention programs. The campaign has already raised $147 million and will conclude in December.
