Remember when Little Rock’s Arkansas News Bureau terminated most of its staff, including its freelance columnists?

Columnists displaced from the Stephens Media-owned bureau at the end of February included Roby Brock, Steve Brawner and Jason Tolbert.

There was at least one more, however: last week Roy Ockert stepped forward to let Whispers know that he too is off the bureau’s payroll.

Ockert, editor emeritus of the Jonesboro Sun, said he is now self-syndicated, and has approached several Arkansas papers to have his content printed in their pages.

He said his opinion columns currently can be read in the Jonesboro Sun, The Daily Citizen of Searcy, the Russellville Courier, the Pine Bluff Commercial, the Morning News of Springdale and the Daily Record of Little Rock.
