USA Truck Inc. of Van Buren added another member to its board of directors Friday.

Alexander Greene, a managing partner with Brookfield Asset Management, joins the now 10-member board. USA Truck named Vadim Perelman and Thomas Glaser to the board on May 23 shortly before the company’s annual shareholders meeting at the request of an investment group, United Shareholders for the Benefit of USAK, that owns 28 percent of USA Truck's stock.

"I have known and worked with Alex for many years, and we are delighted to have him join our board," said Bob Peiser, the chairman of USA Truck's board. "We believe the financial, business and strategic acumen he has demonstrated throughout his distinguished career will be extremely valuable to USA Truck and we work to further improve the company’s financial performance and create long-term shareholder value."

USA Truck said all three appointments would take effect at the same time. A USA Truck official said the board of directors had discretion to add members to its body without the approval of shareholders. Perelman and Glaser, representatives of the two investment groups that make up the United team, were not submitted for a proxy vote because United was formed after the deadline for the shareholders meeting's agenda.
