Little Rock Zone MSAs See Modest Growth

1 min read

Employment grew modestly in the first quarter of 2014 in the Little Rock zone, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. The Little Rock zone includes all of Arkansas except the northeast.

Employment rose 0.1 percent in Little Rock, 0.5 percent in Fort Smith and 1.9 percent in Fayetteville, but fell in Texarkana by 1.3 percent.

The unemployment rate in the first quarter of 2014 fell in all metropolitan statistical areas in the Little Rock zone.

The professional and business services sector in Arkansas continued to grow. “Though it accounts for only 13 percent of the state’s total nonfarm employment, it has grown 10 percent since 2010,” according to the Burgundy Book, a report on economic conditions produced by the St. Louis Fed.
