WYNNE — Financial records show that a state-run golf course has lost about $1.5 million in operating costs since its opening two years ago.

The Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism took over management of The Ridges, a 27-hole golf course in Village Creek State Park near Wynne. Officials say the project was planned as a public-private partnership, but the state took over operations after a private partner went into foreclosure.

The Jonesboro Sun reports the course is projected to have a nearly $800,000 loss for fiscal year 2015.

Arkansas State Parks Director Greg Butts says the state didn't want to walk away from an unfinished project. He says he expects the course will eventually break even financially.

Arkansas also runs a golf course at Degray Lake Resort State Park.
