Red Beauty Lounge Debuts in Heights

Red Beauty Lounge, located in the Heights neighborhood in Little Rock, is a dream turned into reality for owner and stylist Amy Hester. The salon opened April 2 and plans to expand in the coming months.

Although Hester, a former 12-year employee at Joel’s Salon in Little Rock, knew opening a hair salon was in her sights, she waited until the moment was right for her.

With the help of former Joel’s Salon colleagues Jessica Hester, Hester’s sister-in-law, and Courtney Pierce as well as that of her husband, Hester is working to create a salon that puts customer service first and provides a comfortable environment.

“We want everyone to be able to lounge around and hang out,” Hester said. “If they want to stay there all day, they can.”

Red Beauty Lounge offers colors, cuts, highlights and extensions as well as men’s and children’s haircuts. In addition, makeup services are provided through the salon-branded Michelle Leigh cosmetics line.

The salon has two full-time stylists and an assistant, Kaylee Kubitz, and Hester hopes to hire an additional stylist and an airbrush tanning specialist before the end of the year. Hester said the salon is likely to have airbrush tanning by July.

Many of the stylists’ previous clients have moved with them to their new salon. Hester added that the loyalty of her clients and the salon’s location have enabled Red Beauty Lounge to have early success.

A “trending board” near the salon’s entrance provides information about upcoming local events, restaurants and emerging businesses to residents and visitors alike. Hester is using the board to create a community atmosphere that makes Red Beauty Lounge more than just a typical salon.

Red Beauty Lounge, at 1923 N. University Ave., is open from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays.
