Blogging has been light this week because we're in Denver, attending the annual summer conference of the Alliance of Area Business Publications, learning about all the issues affecting business newspapers throughout the country.
As usual, a big focus of the many sessions at the downtown Grand Hyatt is the Internet. Publishers here are interested in beefing up their Web sites with daily news content, as well as adding a host of multimedia features, including video and audio. In addition to logistics and strategies on how to execute such plans, publishers are working on how to sell advertising and sponsorships to pay for it all.
The conference wraps tomorrow, with an awards banquet honoring excellence in publishing, both online and off. Arkansas Business Publishing Group will be named among award-winners, but we don't know what we've won yet. So our fingers are crossed.
A bad camera phone pic of Coors. I forgot batteries for my other camera.
In addition to all the sessions and workshops, there's lots of sightseeing to check out in Denver, which has proven to be a great city for such an event. Yesterday, we were lucky to watch the Colorado Rockies sweep a Hall-of-Fame New York Yankees team at Coors Field. Later in the day, we took in stunning views at Red Rocks, site of some great (and not so great) musical moments. (Video of a better moment is posted below.) Later that night, we had a great dinner at a neighborhood place called Mizuna.
All in all, it's been a great trip so far. Denver's been a fun town, and anyone who has a chance to travel here should take it.
