A poll from Zogby finds, you guessed it, a dead heat in Iowa among Republicans and Democrats. Among the GOP candidates, Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee are neck and neck as of Dec. 1, with Romney at 26 percent and Huckabee at 25 percent. Rudy Guiliani is at 12 percent, with Fred Thompson and John McCain behind in single digits. The poll notes that: Huckabee has taken the most support from Romney, but his gain also comes as Fred Thompson of Tennessee and John McCain of Arizona lost ground. Among women, Huckabee leads Romney, 25% to 24%, but Romney leads Huckabee among men, 28% to 26%. Among those who consider themselves Born Again Christians, Huckabee enjoys a large lead over Romney, 42% to 22%, but he made significant gains among those who are not Born Again, moving from 7% in the Nov. 7 poll to 17% in this latest survey. Romney still leads among non–Born Agains with 30% support. Rudy Giuliani of New York is third among non–Born Agains.
Looking ahead to New Hampshire, the picture is grim for Huckabee (as an ABC poll notes today), who is at 10 percent to leader Romney's 35 percent. Giuliani's next with 15 percent, and McCain follows with 17 percent. But Huckabee has gained 5 percentage points since the last Zogby poll there in September. For the Democrats in Iowa, it looks like this: Hillary Clinton at 27 percent, Barack Obama at 24 percent, and John Edwards at 21 percent. More. Zogby Latest [Zogby]
