To augment the Director''s role in the coordination of Clinical Nutrition. The Assistant Director assists in the accountability for clinical, administrative and human resource activities for the department The Assistant Director collaborates with the Director to ensure the delivery of high quality patient and family centered care at the department level. Identifies and champions performance improvement opportunities and utilizes reserach process to recommend, implement and evaluate practice changes. As an administrator and a clinician, employee must be able to function independently as a part of a team, prioritize and implement program development, supervision and demonstrate leadership, assertiveness and flexibility.
Department and Project Management
Assists with development of policies and procedures for Clinical Nutrition
Delegates and organizes activities effectively
Addresses staff issues adequately
Actively participates on departmental and hospital committees
Evaluates and monitors performance of Registered Dietitians and Clinical staff as assigned
Performs performance evaluations on staff as assigned
Participates in monitoring clinical performance of nutritionists
Monitors continuing education for staff
Applies the technical knowledge, skills and experience to successfully do the job.
Develops, implements and ensures compliance with ACH policies and procedures, regulatory and legal requirements and current health care standards.
Develops and implements necessary quality improvement activities to assure the ongoing quality of patient care or patient care support services
Maintains clinical competence in order to provide direct patient care
Represents Clinical Nutrition by actively participating on ACH committees and community activities
Initiates and facilitates changes to improve patient care through effective communication, collaboration and interdisciplinary problem solving.
Serves as a role model and mentor for assigned staff by consistently demonstrating professionalism
Assumes responsibility for professional development and integration of aquired knowledge and skills into practice
Documents in departmental records personal continuing education.
Human Resources Management
Colaborates with the Director to develop and maintain departmental staffing plans based on volumes, patient acuity, anticipated workload, skill mix and competency requirements
Assists in recruiting, interviewing and hiring qualified staff in accordance with ACH policies and procedures
Manages performance by assessing staff competencey and providing constructive feedback on initial hire on an ongoing basis and during annual performance appraisals.
Evaluates needs, assigns and directs staff to prioritize and coordinate service responsibilities on a day-to-day-basis
