The University of Arkansas Department of Student Media invites applications for the position of Broadcast Engineer. This is a 12-month full-time position offering a competitive salary and excellent University benefit package.
The broadcast engineer operates, maintains, updates and repairs hardware and systems used across television, radio, web streaming, podcasts and other channels, ensuring that programs are broadcast on time to the highest possible quality. The broadcast engineer maintains all broadcast equipment and related systems operated and maintained by UA Student Media, which include the student television station, UATV; the student radio station, KXUA; and approximately 30 Macintosh computers used by the student newspaper and yearbook. In addition, the broadcast engineer maintains equipment and broadcast systems owned and operated by the Lemke Department of Journalism, including edit bays, cameras, tri-casters and other systems used as part of its academic mission.
Minimum requirements are a bachelor's degree or appropriate technical college degree; three or more years of responsibility for all engineering aspects of a broadcast or similar facility; proficient knowledge of professional television, radio, and internet-based broadcast equipment and software; strong computer skills in a PC and MAC environment; the ability to diagnose and repair equipment; good communication skills and the ability to mentor and instruct college students in the proper operation of studio equipment and procedures; and the willingness to accept on-call response for emergencies, including weekends, nights and holidays.
