Career and Volunteer Services Coordinator

Philander Smith College (PSC) is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated individual with superior interpersonal communication skills to serve as the Career/Volunteer Services Coordinator.

The Coordinator for Career/Volunteer Services will work under the direct supervision of the Assistant Dean for Student Services. The Coordinator will provide comprehensive career counseling and advising to students and alumni regarding goal setting, major/career direction, skill analysis, resume preparation, job search, graduate school search, networking strategies, and interviewing skills and assumes the primary role in the planning and organization of the major career/graduate school fairs, and all Center for Student Services related events and campus programs. Additionally, the coordinator will be responsible for the implementation of a comprehensive training and development program for student leaders. Principal responsibilities include identifying and recruiting potential employers to hire PSC students and alumni for full-time, part-time, internship employment, and cultivating relationships with current and future employers. Coordinates and compiles surveys to graduates and employers. Updates and maintains the Career Services database, documentation, reports and student records in accordance with company policies and accreditation requirements. The Coordinator provides communication to students and employers regarding employment activities and opportunities. The Coordinator will conduct periodic follow-up reports to determine employment success of graduates and employers' satisfaction with the quality of education. The Coordinator researches opportunities for current students and alumni by accessing local job search web sites, newspapers, state and local employment agencies and other creative means. Additionally maintains department files, supplies and other sources of information or items on record. Responsible for coordinating seminars and workshops related to career development, employment strategies and techniques as required. Assumes the primary role in the planning and organization of the major career/graduate school fairs, and all Center for Student Services career related events and campus programs and monitoring and maintaining of the Online Career Services Management Programs.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Student Personnel Services/Higher Education, Counseling, or related field required. This position requires knowledge of the basic principles and theories of student development, educational administration, and public relations. Prefer experience in student employment, career services or related setting.

Experience working with career coaching and counseling; graduate education; current and future recruiting trends and sources on the local and national level; evaluation of related graduate student qualifications and matching qualifications with employer needs; supervising staff; management principles and organizational principles related to budget planning; Microsoft Office Applications; presentations skills; effective written and verbal communication skills.
