Facilities Maintenance Technician (2014044)


This posting will remain open until April 21, 2014 or when 200 applications have been received, whichever comes first.
Responsible for assisting with the general maintenance, upkeep and repair of the Heifer International Headquarters campus buildings and infrastructure. The Facilities Maintenance Technician will also support continuous improvement within the Facilities Department and the Heifer International campus.
Required Skills

Repair and make improvements at the Heifer headquarters campus.
Weld and fabricate metal and wood.
Assist service technicians with repairing and maintaining material handling equipment.
Assist service technicians and vendors with projects and work tasks.
Monitor building mechanical system, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system, and controls.
Assist with event setup and changes.
Assist with projects, building moves, and rebuilds.
Complete preventative maintenance routines, documentation and procedures.
Perform battery changes, repairs and preventative maintenance on batteries and related equipment.
Enter downtime data in daily log and complete preventative maintenance sheets.
Track and store department inventory including spare parts.
Perform basic plumbing tasks including, but not limited to, repairing PVC pipes and replacing faucets.
Perform basic electrical tasks including, but not limited to, installing and replacing lighting, troubleshooting and repairing light problems, rewiring, and troubleshooting electrical outlets and breakers.
Take periodic readings of compressors and pneumatics. Reset and replace filters and oils as needed.
Assist with electrical wiring and document panel schedules.
May perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned by management.

Experience Required
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma/GED plus three (3) years’ job-related experience.

Preferred Requirements:

Current HVAC and plumbing certification.
Experience operating light machinery preferred.

Most Critical Proficiencies:

Knowledge of acceptable methods, practices and tools used in HVAC installation, repair and maintenance.
Knowledge of sound housekeeping practices.
Knowledge of analysis, problem resolution and diagnostic processes for information technologies and systems.
Strong organizational skills.
Basic to intermediate computer skills and knowledge.
Basic to intermediate knowledge of software packages, including Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on electronic mail, calendaring, spreadsheets and data entry.
Basic troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify and understand resources needed to resolve them.
Knowledge of basic electrical components as well as electrical testing equipment and simple circuitry.

Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written fashion with the ability to relate to individuals (peers, management, vendors, contractors, etc.) diplomatically and tactfully.
Must be detail oriented and able to work with a diverse team.
Ability to work in varying weather conditions throughout the year, including exposure to below-freezing temperatures and severe heat and humidity.
Ability to complete projects within established deadlines while maintaining daily operations.
Ability to perform multiple tasks and work with constant, unscheduled interruptions with limited supervision.
Must be highly self-motivated and dedicated to working in a safe, customer-focused manner.
Willingness and ability to maintain a flexible schedule and be on call 24 hours a day.
Ability to maintain composure and a positive appearance in stressful situations.
May require constant sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting and lifting.
Ability to lift and carry equipment of up averaging 50 pounds (23 kilograms) and occasionally weighing up to 80 pounds (36 kilograms).
Ability to work with sensitive information and to maintain confidentiality.
