John Cooper served as president of Copper Communities for more than 30 years and continues to serve on a variety of public company boards. The namesake son of the company founder joined the firm 10 years after his legendary father started developing retirement communities in 1954.

From that foundation, the company expanded from residential endeavors to investing in retail, office and warehouse projects and vacation timeshares and resorts, with holdings in eight states.
