Arkansas Nonprofit Alliance Leads Giving Tuesday Events Across the State

2 min read

The Arkansas Nonprofit Alliance spearheaded a philanthropic event Tuesday to raise money and awareness for various causes around the state.

Stephanie Meincke, president and CEO of ANA, said the alliance met its goal of at least 200 organizations participating in #GivingTuesdayAR. Meincke said ANA is now working to get a full count on how much funds were raised, but early totals were around $30,000 with few organizations reporting.

ANA had set a statewide goal of $250,000. Meincke said she thinks ANA might have met that goal, but did not know for sure at the moment.

This is the third year ANA has participated in Giving Tuesday, a national philanthropic event started in response to popular holiday shopping days like Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

“The thing about this, which makes it difficult, is it’s all grassroots,” Meincke said.

Some notable participants included Heifer International, Goodwill Industries of Arkansas, Ronald McDonald Charities of Arkansas, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, the University of Central Arkansas, and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Other organizations took part in their own events, including the Museum of Discovery, which Brooke Bridges, chief development officer, said raised $500 through online donations. It was the first year the museum has participated in the event.

Other events included ones put on by the Arkansas Repertory Theatre and a joint effort in northwest Arkansas by the Helen R. Walton Children’s Enrichment Center, the Samaritan Community Center and United Way of Northwest Arkansas.

Kristen Herbert, development manager at the Walton Enrichment Center, said it raised $8,000, and the Samaritan Center raised another $6,000. As of 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, totals for the other organizations were not known.
