KARK, KLRT Newsroom Earns Murrow Awards for Tornado Coverage

1 min read

KARK and KLRT’s coverage of last year’s tornado outbreak earned the newsroom two regional Edward R. Murrow Awards.

The newsroom received a breaking news award for live coverage, including contributions by meteorologists Keith Monahan, Jeff Baskin, Greg Dee, Pat Walker and Natalie Walters, according to stories posted on the stations’ websites.

The second award — for news documentary — was awarded for the stations’ 55-minute documentary “Through Our Eyes.” The documentary included raw footage and interviews about the tornado.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our team and their life-saving coverage during last year’s tornado outbreak,” Kellerman said in the story. “These awards highlight their commitment and passion to serving our community.”

KHBS and KHOG also took home two Murrow awards in the small market category.

One award was for the newsroom’s coverage of the Prairie Grove High School basketball team on senior night. The second recognized the newsroom’s website.
