California Company Sending Out Misleading Invoices

1 min read

Here’s a tip from the business office at Whispers Central: Be on the lookout for “invoices” from a company called UST of La Verne, Calif.

Arkansas Business Publishing Group received one of these official-looking invoices seeking $425 for one (in bold capital letters) telecom maintenance agreement.

In smaller print was this poorly punctuated message: “This warranty covers preventative maintenance on all telecom system equipment, Including; Telephone, instruments, switches and cabling. This is not for services rendered.”

We couldn’t find any action taken against UST by the state of Arkansas, but we did see that some other states have.

We called the toll-free number on the invoice, but there’s only so long we were willing to wait on hold for the next available representative.
